  50. Probably not really possible.  .GEM files are metafiles containing scalable
  51. drawing primitives, while .IMG files are raster image files.  Conversion the
  52. other way (.GEM to .IMG) should be possible with many drawing programs,
  53. or simply but taking a SnapShot of the easydraw screen.

  86. me: First I must say that's ( all above) not a problem of TOS
  87.     its a problem of these programs, which don't konw the
  88.     drive/path which there started from (should be no problem
  89.     to find out this  10 lines C I think).

  91.     And now to the real point this topic was made for:

  93.     What I hate about my ST system (1040 but build into a tower by myself)
  94.  
  95.         - it is tooooooooooooooooooooo slow
  96.           (all is to slow screen drawing(even with NVDI), CPU , ...)
  97.  
  98.         - no chance to get things in, except by soldering all over
  99.           the big board, a real bus would have been better, BUT
  100.           only with strict defines from Atari, because we don't need
  101.           those problems like on PC-side ;->
  102.  
  103.         - the keyboard and the mouse (i have an orig. ibm keyboard now
  104.           and a logitech mouse now)
  105.  
  106.     What I like
  107.  
  108.         - the good programs runnig on it (Calamus,Script, ..., Turbo C, ...)
  109.  
  110.         - SM124 (a bit small i know)
  111.  
  112.         - it's doing its job quite well, for all I need it
  113.  
  114.         - enough ports from th beginnig (except the bus)

  340. Now I understood, and it works fine. Mw2 uses pty.000, pty.001 etc..
  341. If I boot w/o CON=U:/dev/fasttext, I even get the NVDI fonts in tcsh.
  342. Rebooting is a lot easier with this setting, too.

  375. PC-ditto is nothing but an _interpreter_!
  376.  
  377. There is really no big difference between, say, a BASIC interpreter and
  378. interpreter for 8086 machine language.
  379.  
  380. Look:
  381.  
  382. - There is no need to directly write to hardware registers for
  383.   floppy I/O (use the BIOS instead).
  384. - There is no need to directly write to the screen or directly
  385.   access the keyboard hardware (use the BIOS conio functions instead).
  386.   (It _could_ work even in the new screen modes!)
  387. - There is no need at all to fiddle around with trap or interrupt
  388.   vectors.
  389. - There is no need at all to employ timing loops dependant on processor
  390.   speed.
  391.  
  392. There no real reason why PC-ditto shouldn't work on a TT!
  393.  
  394. If PC-ditto doesn't run on an TT (and it looks that way), the reason
  395. is propably sloppy (or too "clever") programming and "not following the
  396. rules"!

  457. know if its sold seperatly, so go read some magazines then you will
  458. know all about these things, or Z-Net or ST-Report..

  496. A long time ago I posted a fix to this problem.  I'm not sure where I posted,
  497. I think it appeared in the Atari16 digests ...
  498.  
  499. Anyway, I had this same problem and took the (new) monitor to my dealer.  The
  500. service person found the problem and fixed it.  He also gave me a copy of the
  501. relevant part of the monitor schematics.  You have to solder in a resistor
  502. somewhere.

  505. nagging until I do! :-)

  538.  I've MWC release 3.0 running on a Mega STE/4.  The only problem I had was
  539. with  RDY  (the ramdisk).  I think there's a special version of it at a.a.
  540. (as far as I can remember).  But I work directly with the Hard-disk:  it's
  541. fast enough for me.

  554. Someone recently said that when you're running System 7, 4 megs is
  555. really going to suck. This isn't true - I run a genuine Mac LC under
  556. System 7 with 4 megabytes, and whilst I would -like- some more it's not
  557. really necessary. The only reason I'd like some more is so I can
  558. multitask Aldus Freehand, Pagemaker 4, and MacWrite II at the same time
  559. - at the moment I'm exactly 300k short to do that. :-(

  561. But for just about all of my daily usage, four megs is fine. Whoever
  562. said it would suck might be getting confused with System 7 under -2-
  563. megs. Now that really would be a waste of time...

  650. Last time I tried them, stevie didn't support useful ed-commands. Elvis was
  651. much better, but  you could set it up to use either umlaut characters or
